WEEKLY OBJECTIVES: STUDENTS WILL UNDERSTAND THAT THE STRUCTURE OF BIOMOLECULES DETERMINES HOW THEY FUNCTION IN LIVING ORGANISMS. STUDENTS WILL USE MODELING TO DISCOVER THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN CARBOHYDRATES, LIPIDS, PROTEINS, AND NUCLEIC ACIDS.
Monday - Lecture on the four biomolecules and examine the structure and function of carbohydrates in living organisms.
Tuesday - Modeling carbohydrates, using model kit; students will explain how their models explain the function of carbohydrates
Wednesday - Short lecture on lipids, followed by model building of carbohydrates.
Thursday - Short lecture on proteins, followed by model building of amino acids. the building blocks of proteins.
Friday - Demonstration of the function of enzymes.
